We have in place no unreasonable barriers to any person wishing to study at the School, however to attend the School, on a fulltime basis, all applicants must pass an audition.
There are no age limits placed on entry to the School.
We prefer that applicants, who are currently attending Secondary School, complete their senior school year.
The applicant must bring some sort of art or craft portfolio of their choice. The purpose of an art portfolio is not to assess the applicant’s artistic style or ability, but to demonstrate the applicant’s ability to start a project and follow an idea through until it is completed. Art is also an indicator of hand/eye co-ordination.
A recognised prior learning procedure is available to applicants. Prior secondary school or other academic achievements are not a part of or assessed in the audition process, unless requested. This must be communicated prior to the audition so that supporting evidence can be presented and assessed.
Refer to the Peter Minturn Goldsmith School Current Competency Policy/ Recognised Prior Learning (RPL).
The applicant will be required to complete the Schools workshop OSH training as a part of the audition process. This form is signed off as confirmation of having received the workshop training.
At the bench and under full tuition the applicant will make three simple exercise pieces over two days. As a performance based study the applicant must demonstrate to the school that they have the artistic ability, and the hand/eye co-ordination required to benefit from the qualifications on offer.
All applicants are given full assistance and tuition to achieve the exercises set.
At the completion of the audition the School Principal will advise verbally a pass/fail result.
For applicants that pass; final acceptance and written confirmation of placement for study at the School will be given by the Board of Directors.
