This course is for those who wish to learn the fundamentals of hand engraving, and will suit participants that have an understanding of jewellery manufacturing processes.
Our tutor, Dene Gilmore is a practicing Engraver with 30 years experience in the Trade.
Dene will share basic skill-sets with you to practice and build on. He will introduce essential tool preparation, basic letters, scroll work, drawing and cutting. Time permitting Dene will also introduce detailed scroll work / inscription.
The following tools are required from the first day:
1x 2.5mm square Graver- high speed steel
1x half head short neck handle
Norton oilstone or similar
1x 4/0 polishing paper
Setting cement/brown wax
Pencil, ruler, rubber
A box of plasters, (you know it’s inevitable)
You will need to bring a bib apron, wear closed toe shoes and if you wear your hair long it must be tied up.
Fees: $425.00 inclusive of materials
This introductory class runs Monday evenings, 6pm to 9pm from 1 May to 26 June
